Star Party Success, Meteor Shower Fizzle…

Last nights star party was a success, and the meteor shower was a complete fizzle! The full moon lit up the haze and moisture in the sky to the point where you could count the entire sky of stars nearly on both hands and feet, and the highest number of falling stars were counted by one lucky participant-on one hand. 9 people showed up for this short listed event, and considering that I began promoting this years star party a week in advance, it was a great success!Everyone reported having a really good time, with several people signing up to be part of the new Astronomy Club, concluding that we will gather to view the sky when the heavens next show themselves a bit more clearly.

Thanks to everyone young and old who attended. A website & mailing list for observing are in the process of being made.
Anyone with any interest in joining us to observe please feel free to contact me! Ill post the next night out when weather again permits.

Fizzle what?

Just because you were too busy entertaining us with stories to lift up your head and see?!! 🙂

Noah and I say that the huge gold/bronze one that looked like it had a smoking tail was a sight that we’ll always remember.

Thanks very much, David.

LOL, You are boith most welcome! Im glad you both were able to have one decent fireball to remember the star party by! 🙂

It was very much my pleasure sharing the entire experience with you Charles & Noah, et al. Remember to tell Noah that the next meteor shower is coming up around November 17th. Ill check the moon phases & see if we will have dark skies for this one. And Ill try and keep the entertaining on this next outing to a minimum 😉

Several of us commented on how much we enjoyed Noah’s youthful enthusiasm and cheerfulness at the party. We are very glad you were both there 🙂

Ive almost got the astronomy/outdoors blog ready to go just ironing out a few bugs before I hand out the web address. I also “rediscovered” my broken old 20×80 giant celestron binoculars in storage today, and the receipt to have them returned and repaired so we will hopefully have 2 large instruments for us all to view through soon!

Im thinking we will have to go out observing again in the next few days when the moon is not around and hopefully the skies can hold out.

Im really looking forward to our next outing.

Cheers,
David

Even though we didn’t make it to the event we saw 2 magnificent ‘fireballs’ at approx. 10 pm – which was really a treat.
So, thanks for the ‘heads up’ and glad you all had a good time.

Thanks Lisa Marie, glad you were able to enjoy a couple as well! The next big shower is the Leonids, around November 17th. There are a couple of others in between but they aren’t usually such large producers.

Clear Skies To You!

David
